Silicone Molding

When your product is a hard cast-able plastic somewhere between prototype and production. It doesn't make sense to spend a lot of money on tooling and setup fees will eat into your profit if not be prohibitively expensive.

Silicone molding can be a very effective alternative, depending on the part. In some cases, much like 3D printing, complexity is free. Here the cost is time and materials. Let us help you decide if it's right for your project.

The Process

  1. Contact us with your needs and we'll help you decide if Silicone Molding is right for you.
  2. Send in a 3D model and drawing with your critical dimensions, if you need an NDA signed make sure to send it with a basic description of your product before you send your model.
  3. We'll look at the model and determine an appropriate method to make the master.
  4. Then we'll look at the costs of making the mold/s and casting your product.
  5. We quote the Silicone Mold and the end product.

The Result

You get what you need
  • Master Part and inspection report
  • Silicone Mold/s used to make your parts
    • Suggested preservation method as well
  • Your end products
Depending on the part the mold may last for many parts. We use high tear strength silicone in our molds to keep them functional as long as possible. However, dependent on the part being molded, there are areas that may tear regardless. This results in the death of the mold in almost all cases. If this is a significant concern, we'll point it out up front on the quote.

Past Projects

This is an injection pen grip. The part master was 3D printed and then a Silicone Mold was made. The final parts were made using an expanding foam and dyed various colors.
