When your product is an injected plastic in the prototype phase, or an expanding foam somewhere between prototype and production. It doesn't make sense to spend a lot of money on tooling and setup fees will eat into your profit if not be prohibitively expensive.

3D printed molding is sometimes a very effective alternative, depending on the part. Here the costs are in the tooling and materials. However, the tooling cost can be reduced at the expense of tool life, depending on the temperature required. Let us help you decide if it's right for your project.

The Process

2. Send in a 3D model and drawing with your critical dimensions, if you need an NDA signed make sure to send it with a basic description of your product before you send your model.
3. We'll look at the model and determine an appropriate method to make the mold tool.
4. Then we'll look at the costs of designing and making the mold/s.
5. We quote the Mold.

Depending on the part the mold may last for many parts. For an expanding foam, it really should last for a very long time. For an injected plastic though, this method is only acceptable to produce a handful of parts to continue research and development. Most plastics simply have too close a melt point to keep the tool functional regardless of the cooling methods we use.
